HS2's proposed destruction

The proposed route for HS2 will obliterate this ancient burial site going back hundreds of years, please see a little more history on the history page.

Several visitors to the current churchyard at All Saint Church have expressed concern about the proposed route of the HS2 railway in Derbyshire as it goes past Heath.

A representative of the church has attended meetings with HS2, and the PCC would like to reassure everyone that the route does NOT affect the present churchyard at All Saints Church. The proposals are that burials at the closed Old Heath Churchyard (across the other side of the dual-carriageway) may be disturbed.

There is ongoing communications with HS2, but it appears that at present they are good at passing the buck.

There was a public information event at Sharley Park Leisure Centre on Monday 25th June. If you were unable to go, more details can be found at:- www.hs2.org.uk. From the 'Work in Progress' maps, there are going to be major changes to local roads and junction 29 of the M1.

Please keep watching as I understand this may cause major ecological problems in the future, for the surrounding area due to past coal mining.
